Wydad Casablanca (men) and AS FAR (women) win the day

The Wydad de Casablanca (WAC) clubs for men and AS FAR for women won the majority of the prizes awarded on Thursday evening in Casablanca, during the traditional Gala evening “Laylat Annoujoum” (The Night des Stars) which celebrates its 8th candle this year.

Thus, the WAC, winner of the Champions League and the Botola Pro D1 “Inwi” was crowned best team of the year during this event organized by the Moroccan Union of Professional Footballers (UMFP), in partnership with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

The coach of the Red and Whites, Walid Regragui, won the trophy for best coach, ahead of the coach of the Maghreb of Fez, Abdelhay Ben Sultan and that of AS FAR Sven Vandenbroeck.

WAC captain Yahya Jabrane won the award for best player in Botola Pro D1 “Inwi”, at the expense of Mohammed Azrida (Raja Casablanca) and Reda Selim (AS FAR).

The top scorer award went to Congolese Guy Mbenza (WAC), author of 16 goals this season, while Issoufou Dayo took the trophy for best foreign player at Botola Pro.

For his part, the right side of Paris Saint Germain Achraf Hakimi won the award for best Moroccan player playing abroad, while Yassine Bounou won the trophy for best goalkeeper. At the level of the Botola Pro D1, this distinction went to the goalkeeper of Raja Casablanca, Anas Zniti.

The prize for the promising player went to Mehdi Moubarik of FUS Rabat, to the detriment of Soufiane Benjdida (Raja Casablanca) and Abdellah El Haimoud (WAC).

A special tribute was paid, on this occasion, to the national women’s under-17 team which qualified for the first time in the history of Moroccan football for the final phase of the World Cup in the category, scheduled for 2022 in India, in addition to RS Berkane, winners of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup.

Among the women, AS FAR distinguished itself by winning the three individual prizes at stake. Thus, Khadija Er-rmichi was chosen best goalkeeper, while Ghizlane Chebbak was crowned best player of the national women’s football championship . Ibtissam Jraidi won the top scorer award.

In futsal, national team coach Hicham Dguig was honored as best coach, while player Sofiane El Mesrar received the team of the season trophy on behalf of the national team. Players Youssef Jaouad (Chabab Mohammedia) and Reda El Khayari (Loukous Ksar El Kébir) won, in order, the best player and best goalkeeper trophies.

On the sidelines of this ceremony, a tribute was paid to referees Redouan Jayed and Bouchra Karboubi who distinguished themselves on the African scale, as well as to coach Abdellatif Jrindou who led Moghreb de Tetouan to access the Botola Pro D1 “Inwi”.

This event is an opportunity to celebrate, with the whole sporting family and with all its components, the achievements of national clubs, at local and continental level, as well as the particular achievements of players who have excelled locally and internationally in various Arab and European championships.
