Moroccan Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali qualified on Saturday for the 3,000m steeplechase final, counting for the athletics world championships, which opened on Friday in Eugene in the United States of America.
El Bakkali, author of the best world performance of the year over the same distance, flew over the 1st series in 8min 16sec 65/100th. He beat Kenyans Leonard Kipkemoi Bett (8:16.94) and Abraham Kibiwot (8:17.04).
The first three of each series win their tickets for the final. They will be joined by the six athletes with the best times. A total of 15 athletes (14 men and 1 lady) represent Morocco at the 18th edition of the World Athletics Championships (Eugene-2022).
