The Australian selection beat their Irish counterpart by 1 goal to 0, in match of the first day of group B of the Women’s World Cup of football, Thursday in Sydney.
The Australians won thanks to a goal from the penalty spot by Steph Catley (52nd) and temporarily dominate Group B, which also includes Nigeria and Canada.
At the start of the competition, New Zealand won against Norway 1-0.
In front of their public, the New Zealanders managed to open the scoring in the 48th minute on a quick action concluded by Hannah Wilkinson.
New Zealand and Norway are housed in Group A, alongside the Philippines and Switzerland.
