It is a debate that continues to rage in Morocco. Although certain restrictions have been lifted, the vaccination pass is replaced by the health pass and the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom has improved, Moroccan supporters continue to be deprived of their presence in the country’s stadiums. A situation that raises many questions, especially since the resumption of many activities.
After a year and a half behind closed doors, the imposition of the health pass and the easing of restrictions including the lifting of the curfew, the supporters have only one desire, and that is to find the stadiums to support their teams. and selection.
And yet Moroccan football fans are largely forgotten by the lifting of restrictions. Several countries, whether in Europe or Africa, have authorized the return of supporters to stadiums, which arouses great dissatisfaction among Moroccan observers, given that the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom has been experiencing tangible stability for several weeks. What exacerbate the anger of Moroccan supporters and those of the clubs, who demand an answer on the subject.
However, a few weeks ago, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, had confirmed that Moroccan supporters would gradually return to national stadiums, on condition of being provided with a health pass, to hand in with match tickets at security checkpoints on the sides and at stadium entrances, with all the means mobilized to ensure that health passports are not falsified.
However, the project continues to be at a standstill, following the government’s silence on the issue, as confirmed to MoroccoLatestNews FR, a source within the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), which ensures that no decision has been communicated to the body.
Ait Taleb gives explanations, a new wave in sight?
Faced with the many reactions aroused by this absence, thehe Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, indicated that it is currently impossible to determine a precise date for the return of supporters to national stadiums, stressing that this step is linked to indicators of the epidemiological situation and is linked to several stakeholders, including the scientific committee which monitors and follows the evolution of the health situation in the Kingdom.
“There will be a gradual return of supporters to the stadiums. There is now a follow-up of the epidemiological situation and we are examining the results. I cannot set a precise date for this stage, it is linked to certain indicators ”, Ait Taleb explained to the media on the sidelines of his presence in Parliament.
“We monitor the epidemiological situation every week and extract the results every two weeks. This is done in coordination with the scientific committee and the vigilance committee, then we take the necessary decisions in this context ”, he continued.
An update that comes at a time when Morocco does not rule out the appearance of a new wave of the coronavirus in view of the current world situation, the emergence of a new mutant, not to mention the arrival of the winter season and what it brings with the change in its temperatures.
In this context, Tayeb Hamdi, physician and researcher in health policies and systems, previously stated that “ each time a new mutant appeared, the possibility of its arrival in Morocco and in all the countries of the rest of the world, remained “, Emphasizing that” the current fear, whatever the new mutation, is the emergence of a new wave for climatic reasons “.
The doctor, researcher in health policies and systems confided in his statement: ” In European countries, a new wave of Covid may take place in the next two or three weeks. In Morocco, it could start at the end of the year “.
The presence of “influencers” during a match ignites the debate
The absence of supporters but the presence of personalities from social networks has revived an already tense debate. Indeed, images of influencers being in the VIP side of the stands, despite the absence of the public, in the Prince Moulay Abdellah Complex during the match between Morocco and Guinea during the last round of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has caused discontent among supporters, who have made it known.
Although it is forbidden to attend matches, the FRMF has decided to distribute dozens of invitations to influential people on social networks, including Oussama Ramzi or Simo Sedraty, who notified their presence during the match between the Morocco and Guinea (3-0), through many stories posted on Instagram, a network on which they accumulate millions of subscribers.
Following these publications, the Moroccan supporters reacted with a lot of anger and resentment, questioning the accuracy of the criteria by which the file of the return of the public in the stands is treated, and if the “influencers” benefit from an “immunity”, accusing the body of demonstrating “discrimination”.
If the controversy quickly disappeared, anger continues to consume those who still cannot support their favorite teams.
It should be remembered that the matches of all local and national competitions, all categories combined, have been played behind closed doors since March 4, 2020, by decision of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and in coordination with the authorities, in order to ensure the safety of the football family against coronavirus infection.
