Abdenbi Bioui, from the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), was reelected on Saturday in Oujda, president of the Council of the Oriental region (CRO).
The only candidate for the presidency, Mr. Bioui was re-elected by an absolute majority, obtaining the votes of 49 members out of the 51 that make up the CRO, during a plenary session intended for the election of the president and the bureau of the Council , held in the presence of representatives of local authorities.
The session also saw the election of the seven vice-presidents of the CRO and the secretary of the Council and his deputy.
The PAM came second after the regional elections on September 8 in the Oriental region, securing 16 seats, just behind the Rassemblement National des Indépendants (RNI), which won 17 seats, and ahead of the Party of Istiqlal which won 12 seats.
The Progress and Socialism Party (PPS) and the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) each won two seats, while the Popular Movement (MP) and the Justice and Development Party (PJD) each won one seat.
The CRO has a total of 51 seats, 20 of which are reserved for women.
