US House Speaker ousted in dramatic vote

The US House of Representatives voted on Tuesday to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his position.

In a dramatic 216 to 210 vote tonight led by a right-wing group of Republicans, McCarthy has been forced out by his own party, becoming the first House Speaker to be ousted in US history.

The House endorsed a “motion to vacate” with eight Republicans voting against their party leader, despite having no clear successor for the position.
