Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, sent a video message to the World Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on education for sustainable development (ESD), in which it called on the international community to make a firm commitment, during this decade, to establishing education for sustainable development as an imperative priority.

The Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment has been working, for more than two decades, to develop various programs aimed at reducing or eliminating the negative impact of Man on Nature, added Lalla Hasnaa, noting in this report. framework, that King Mohammed VI “whose interest in this theme dates back to his earliest years, has always encouraged us to develop the most ambitious approaches, anchored in the present and resolutely turned towards the future”.
The Sovereign “never ceases to remind us how much the School is at the heart of development issues and, in particular, of the environmental challenge,” she added.
She underlined in this sense that the School, “responsible for the teaching and transmission of knowledge, is, more broadly and even more as a priority, a space for education and transmission of values. Educating young people to respect the environment means believing in the promise of a new, more harmonious and sustainable world ”.
“Education for Sustainable Development, a theme that brings us together today, is the key to success, and we therefore wanted the action of our Foundation to be focused on raising awareness and training the youngest in these issues” , continued the Princess.
For the case of Morocco, she indicated that the Kingdom is one of the three countries in the world which is carrying out a pilot experiment for the Global Schools program of UNESCO.
“Because mobilization on issues related to the environment can only have a lasting effect if it becomes a reflex acquired from initial training: education from an early age is therefore an essential priority”, said HRH the Princess. Lalla Hasnaa.
She also observed that “the covid-19 crisis reminds us in particular of the urgency of achieving global Sustainable Development, equitable and at the service of all, the protection of the environment and the safeguard of our planet, + our common house +, constitute one of the fundamental pillars of this approach.
It should be noted that the conference, which continues until the 19th current, is being held under the theme “Creating the change we need in times of planetary crisis – ESD for 2030”.
