UM5 in Rabat, best Moroccan university for “CWTS Leiden 2023”

Mohammed V University (UM5) in Rabat has been ranked the best Moroccan university according to the 2023 edition of the “CWTS Leiden” ranking.

This annual ranking, dedicated to the best universities in the world, is based solely on four types of indicators related to research and relating to the scientific impact of publications, international collaboration, open access publications and the gender approach in the authors of publications, indicates a press release from the University.

For the year 2023, UM5, ranked first nationally in all four indicators, improved its overall ranking in the “CWTS Leiden Ranking” compared to the previous year by 60 places.

Globally, it ranked 816th for the gender approach indicator, 988th for the international collaboration and open access publications indicator and 1007th for the scientific impact indicator, said the same source, adding that the data used for this ranking comes from the international scientific database “Web of Science”.

According to the statement, Mohammed V University, thanks to the work and efforts of its researchers, is the first nationally in terms of Web of Science indexed publications, with 27% of the number of national publications.

For this year’s edition, 1,411 top universities that have published at least 800 quality publications over the period 2018-2021 are included in this selective ranking.
