Ukrainian forces said Friday morning they were fighting Russian armored units in two localities, Dymer and Ivankiv, respectively 45 and 80 km north of Kiev, the capital.
“Airborne assault troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are fighting around the settlements of Dymer and Ivankiv, where a large number of enemy tanks have arrived,” the army said on its Facebook page.
According to this message, the advance of the “upper forces of the enemy was stopped on the bank of the Teterov River. The bridge over the river has been destroyed”.
The army staff for its part claimed to control the Antonov military airport in Gostomel, at the gates of the Ukrainian capital, which had fallen the day before during an assault by Russian forces.
“A defense forces tactical unit is holding Gostomel airfield where Russian airborne troops entered yesterday,” he said on Facebook as well.
