Two Fox News reporters were killed in an attack near kyiv, and another was injured. UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay condemned the attack, saying journalists “should never be targeted”.
“Journalists play an essential role in the dissemination of information during a conflict and should never be targeted,” said the director general of Unesco in a press release after the deaths of Pierre Zakrzewski and Oleksandra Kuvshinova.
Pierre Zakrzewski, an Irishman, was a former war photographer who had covered many conflicts including Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria and became a Fox News cameraman.
For her part, Oleksandra Kuvshinova, 24, was a local Ukrainian journalist who had worked for Fox News for a month. Another member of the American television team was injured and is still in hospital.
“I call for respect for international humanitarian standards, in order to guarantee the protection of journalists and media professionals,” added Audrey Azoulay.
