“Unscrupulous individuals, with the intention of making money, have duped members of the population with false vaccinations against Covid-19,” said Warren Naamara, in charge of the presidency of monitoring health services .
“Two health workers have been arrested, and a doctor is on the run,” he said, explaining that the crooks were targeting vaccine candidates who wanted to pay for their injection as a priority, when Uganda was precisely on the run. lack of doses for his free vaccination campaign.
Counterfeit vaccines billed at $ 120
Counterfeit vaccines, sometimes mixed with water, were administered between May and June, in the midst of a wave of coronavirus contaminations in the country, with an average of 1,700 new cases per day.
The people who received these injections do not have to worry, the tests indicating that the vials concerned did not contain any dangerous product, with “just water in some”, assured Mr. Naamara, specifying that the crooks charged each injection between 25 to 120 dollars.
The Ministry of Health on Wednesday recalled that the government was providing free and approved Covid-19 vaccines at designated vaccination sites. According to the latest count from health authorities, Uganda has recorded 91,162 cases of infection since the start of the pandemic, including 2,425 deaths from the coronavirus.
