Two reportedly killed by heavy rains

Heavy rains in several Algerian towns on Wednesday left two people dead, reports the newspaper El Khabar.

The two victims, aged 35 and 50, were fatally swept away by the waters of the Oued El Maleh in the town of Bordj Bou Arreridj (240 km east of Algiers), the newspaper reported, citing the Algerian Civil Protection.

According to local media, firefighters are continuing to search for other people reported missing after being swept away by the waters in the towns of Bordj Bou Arreridj and Tamanrasset (far south).

Earlier in the day, the Algerian Meteorological Office issued a BMS warning for heavy rains in the north and south of the country.
