Two Moroccan referees selected by FIFA

Two Moroccan referees have been selected by the International Football Federation (FIFA) to officiate at the U20 World Cup, scheduled for May 20 to June 11, 2023 in Argentina.

This is assistant referee Zakaria Brinsi, while referee Hamza El Fariq will be in charge of video refereeing (VAR).

The FIFA Referees Committee has selected 25 referees, 38 assistant referees and 18 video referees for the U20 World Cup Argentina 2023.

According to FIFA, the preparation of referees for the competition, which will be overseen by the Refereeing sub-division, will focus on such broad topics as reading and understanding the game, working together and the importance of being in the right place at the right time in order to make the right decisions thanks to the best angle of view.

“All these essential aspects reflect the philosophy of refereeing within FIFA. They are essential to guarantee the uniformity and homogeneity of arbitration decisions at this level. FIFA must ensure that its competitions are led by the best referees in the world,” said Massimo Busacca, Director of the Refereeing Sub-Division of the International Football Federation.

A few days before the start of the competition, the selected referees will take part in a final preparation seminar during which they will review match footage and take part in filmed practical training sessions with players. The instructors can then provide them with immediate advice.
