Transfers exceed 67 billion dirhams at the end of August

Remittances made by Moroccans living abroad (MRE) amounted to more than 67.73 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) for the first eight months of 2021, against 43.73 billion dirhams during the same period of 2020, indicates the Office des Changes.

These transfers thus show an increase of 45.7%, specifies the Office which has just published its monthly indicators of foreign trade for the month of August.

These indicators also show a decline in the surplus of the balance of trade in services of 2.3% to 40.07 billion dirhams, against 40.99 billion dirhams a year earlier.

In addition, the Office notes that travel, the main component of trade in services, posted a surplus balance down 21%.

This development is mainly attributable to the decline in travel receipts of 17.6%, standing at 20.27 billion dirhams at the end of August 2021. At the same time, travel expenses fell by 9.1%.
