Three attempts at irregular migration from the coast of Monastir (central-eastern Tunisia) to Italy were foiled by units of the Maritime Guard in the district of Monastir, according to a security source.
Following their intervention, these units of the Maritime Guard arrested a total of 43 people, including 12 Tunisians, said a security source, quoted by local media.
The first two clandestine crossing attempts to the northern shore of the Mediterranean involved 31 people from sub-Saharan Africa, including 9 women and 4 children.
According to the same source, 12 young people from Gafsa and Ksar Hillal (Governorate of Monastir) whose age varies between 18 and 24, participated in the third attempt at irregular migration.
