Three Algerian soldiers were killed Monday in the crash of their helicopter during a training mission 200 km southwest of Algiers, the Ministry of Defense said.
The MI-171 type helicopter, of Russian manufacture, crashed near the locality of El Attaf in the governorate of Aïn Defla “resulting in the martyrdom of its crew” composed of three members: a colonel, a commander and a sergeant, the ministry said in a statement quoted by state media.
Army Chief of Staff General Said Chengriha has ordered an investigation to elucidate the causes of the crash, the statement added.
The last military helicopter crash in Algeria dates back to December 2020 when three naval force officers perished in the fall of their aircraft off the Tipaza region, near Algiers.
