The book “Going to China, Back from the Future” documents recent trips to China and highlights the first observations and impressions on the experience of this country, said its author the writer, journalist and political analyst, Abdelhamid Jmahri. .
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the presentation and signing ceremony of this book, organized Saturday in Casablanca at the initiative of the Loubila Center for training in artistic and cultural activities, Abdelhamid Jmahri noted that he had surrendered in China four times, noting that with every trip he searched for answers to the questions running through the minds of an entire generation that has grown up hearing the word China since the 1960s and 1970s.
“We were fascinated by the photos of Mehdi Ben Barka shaking hands with senior Chinese leaders as well as the books reaching us from China. Discussions were in full swing in the universities. All this was the basis for a first familiarization with China, ”said the author, also editor and publication director of the Arabic-language daily“ Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki ”.
These trips, he added, were an experiment to find out if the image of China in reality was similar to that which had populated his imagination in the 1970s and early 1980s.
The Chinese spirit does not lie solely in preserving a 3,000-year-old heritage. It is also a population that lives the future with intelligence and innovation, noted Abdelhamid Jmahri, saying he is fascinated by Chinese society, an organized society that accompanies the major changes and transformations in the field of intelligence.
The daily life of the Chinese is made of hard work and seriousness, he continued, noting that 2020 would have been the year of the elimination of poverty if the Covid-19 pandemic had not been triggered. In Abdelhamid Jmahri’s view, “Going to China, Back from the Future” brings together many aspects of the Chinese experience, but it is impossible to summarize China, as well as its travels and experiences there, in one book.
The writer, journalist and poet Jmahri is the author of several books and collections of poetry, notably “The profession of illusion” and “A return ticket to hell”.
