These organs to watch after recovery

After contracting the coronavirus, many people experience long-term side effects. Apart from the loss of smell and taste, covid-19 can lead to certain more serious pathologies for the body for 1 in 10 people.

Whether it is a mild or severe form of the coronavirus infection, the body faces significant changes that do not arise at the time of infection. These pathologies, which affect several parts of the body, appear following the patient’s recovery.

If for the moment, scientists have not yet been able to detect the full field of side effects linked to the coronavirus given that this virus is still new and difficult to understand, in those affected, several similarities of post-infection symptoms have been observed. revealed, and some databases have listed 50 different forms of side effects.

Cardiologists have seen the number of patients with heart pain increase within weeks of recovery from the coronavirus. According to several cardiologists consulted by MoroccoLatestNews FR, the coronavirus causes blood clotting leading to various cardiovascular problems (embolism, pulmonary fibrosis, myocarditis, infarction, etc.)

The blood in the body would become less liquid and create clots, which would block the small blood vessels in the heart, or could affect the lungs, which would run the risk of pulmonary embolism.

In some patients, heart and chest pain appear, in addition to difficulty in breathing. This is due to the inflammation that the immune system causes in response to the virus, and can be the cause of myocarditis, encephalitis, or acute respiratory distress syndrome.

The cardiovascular disease that the coronavirus can cause affects not only patients with a previous history of heart problems but also perfectly healthy people, and young people are not spared either.

Patients who have had a severe form of coronavirus requiring intubation or artificial ventilation, for their part, are particularly concerned by complications such as venous thrombosis, in other words, blood clots in the veins and this even if the patients are on anticoagulant therapy.

About half of the patients studied and having been intubated or put on ventilation following a coronavirus infection, presented a deep vein thrombosis, a serious form of thrombosis that could create a pulmonary embolism, according to the Haute Autorité de Santé. (HAS) in France.

In addition to cardiovascular disease, renal and neurological pathologies have been observed in patients with coronavirus, after their recovery.

Whether they have a history of illness or not, people affected by the coronavirus who required resuscitation have a 20% chance of developing kidney failure.

At the cerebral level, studies based on electroencephalograms (EEG) published in the journal Seizure: European Journal of Epilepsy, have shown that a third of patients presented abnormalities in the brain with potential long-term effects.

Among the hospitalized cases where the coronavirus was detected, some presented with temporary cerebral dysfunction, cerebral inflammation, nerve damage or even stroke.

For the World Health Organization (WHO), these diseases which appear as a result of covid have been called “post-covid disease”, although there is not yet a clear definition of this type of effect. secondary.

The WHO calls for vigilance as to the functional quality of the organs most often affected, namely, the heart, brain, muscles and lungs, and lists these complications.

They are cardiovascular, in particular because of the inflammation of the cardiac muscle, respiratory, dermatological with skin rashes, neurological (with sleep disorders, concentration, states of confusion and agitation, convulsive crisis, stroke ) and psychiatric (depression, mood disorders, anxiety).

“We still do not know much about how COVID-19 affects people over time and other research and studies must still be carried out over several years to understand,” says the UN organization.

The WHO hopes scientists can clearly establish the long-term effects of covid-19, why symptoms persist or reappear, and what the consequences of these health problems are on patients.
