The United Arab Emirates reiterated, in New York, its constant position supporting the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Morocco.
“My country supports the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco and which the Security Council has described as serious and credible to propel the process towards a settlement” of the regional dispute around the Sahara, underlined the representative of the United Arab Emirates during the annual meeting of the Committee of 24 (C24) of the United Nations.
This initiative represents a “important solution” which is in line with the Charter and the resolutions of the United Nations and which preserves the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, she noted.
The United Arab Emirates also expressed its continued support for the political process launched since 2007 under the exclusive aegis of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy and aimed at reaching a realistic, pragmatic and compromise political solution.
In this context, the Emirati diplomat welcomed the first tour of the Personal Envoy of the UN SG for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura in the region, while welcoming his continuous efforts to relaunch the process of tables- round.
At the same time, she highlighted Morocco’s sustained efforts to improve the living conditions of the populations of the southern provinces.
The diplomat also underlined that her country, in line with the vision of her wise leadership and in concretization of its historical and strategic relations with Morocco, inaugurated its consulate general in the city of Laâyoune.
