The Union of employees rises against the Management

The National Union of Employees of the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (BNRM) reiterates its protests against the director of the establishment, denouncing his ” gratuitous attacks and his abuse of power“, as well as his ” refusal to comply with the decisions of the Board of Directors, in addition to ignoring the report of the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication“. A sit-in is planned for this week.

The tone is rising within the National Union of BNRM employees in opposition to the management of the establishment. Affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT), the union had already organized a protest sit-in on June 19 in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture in Rabat.

Today, the Syndicate announces in a press release sent to MoroccoLatestNews UK, that a new protest sit-in will take place in front of the headquarters of the National Library on Thursday, July 27 from 12:30 p.m. Other protest sit-ins and various forms of struggle are also planned, the place and date of which will be communicated later.

Uniting the employees of the National Library under its banner, the Syndicate has on several occasions denounced what it considers to be acts of ” corruption “ in the ” procurement and contract management“, in particular by pointing the finger ” the dubious contract linked to the renovation of the National Library, amounting to 1.8 billion centimes, as well as various manipulations”.

Employees have also drawn attention to what they describe as ” flagrant violation of the legal provisions governing the proper management of the public establishment“. They also denounce illegal individual promotions, attacks on State institutions, manipulations in the annual evaluation, professional competency examinations, appointments to positions of responsibility and questionable hirings, as well as arbitrary dismissals and pressure exerted on employees to induce them to resign”.

Moreover, employees affiliated with the Union strongly condemn the ” normalization with the symbols of corruption within the National Library, referring to the retention of people with administrative backgrounds in positions of responsibility. They point out that this is done “ despite the violations and irregularities proven against them by the reports of the Court of Auditors and the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Culture“.

In its press release of this Monday, July 24, the Syndicate mentioned a report by the general inspectorate of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication concerning the National Library, which it describes as ” black“, in the sense that it confirms” the existence of massive financial, administrative and professional violations requiring legal action and the taking of strict disciplinary measures, in accordance with the principle of responsibility and accountability“.

Despite the fact that the National Syndicate responded favorably to the call from the supervisory ministry for dialogue to find solutions to the various outstanding problems, the text continues, the director of the National Library, for his part, “ refused to calm social tensions in a provocative way, rejecting all efforts and defying everyone. This attitude is reflected in its persistence in the same arbitrary and illegal practices identified by the report of the general inspectorate of the ministry“.

Which attitude is at the origin of the organization of the sit-in on Thursday, notes the Union.
