The Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, highlighted, on Friday in Rabat, the importance of the national cultural heritage, material and immaterial, in the social, economic and cultural fields, as well as the need for its preservation as a lever for consolidating national identity.
During a meeting dedicated to the restitution of the opinion of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), entitled “for a new vision of management and enhancement of cultural heritage”, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, emphasized the efforts made by the department of culture and the various partners and actors for decades, with a view to identifying, preserving, protecting, enhancing and integrating the national heritage into development efforts, the aim being “to achieve the development human and social and spatial cohesion, and to strengthen the cultural influence of the Kingdom”.
These efforts, he added, have been strengthened in recent decades through integrated local and regional interventions at the level of the ancient cities of the Kingdom, accompanying the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI in the matter.
He also highlighted the participatory approach adopted by the Ministry of Culture and aimed at implementing plans and strategies in the field of cultural heritage, including strengthening the partnership with the Regional Councils, in accordance with the vision of the New Development Model.
Held at the archaeological site of Chellah, the meeting took place in the presence of the president of the CESE, Ahmed Réda Chami, the president of the National Foundation of Museums (FNM), Mehdi Qotbi, ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Morocco, alongside representatives of international organizations.
Also present were representatives of ministerial departments and public establishments, national institutions and civil society, representatives of federations and professional associations, in addition to an audience of cultural heritage experts.
