The ONMT secures a record partnership with Ryanair for the 2022 summer season

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) announced on Thursday that it has secured a record partnership with Ryanair for the 2022 summer season.

“Eddie Wilson, CEO of Ryanair traveled to Morocco especially for the signing of a strategic partnership with Adel El Fakir, Managing Director of ONMT”indicates the Office in a press release.

Accompanied by Jason McGuinness, Commercial Director of the company, Eddie Wilson held several work meetings with the teams before initialling the partnership agreement which seals the company’s commitments in Morocco for the next summer season.

Adel El Fakir, Director General of the ONMT stressed that“good air programming is a sine qua none condition for a rapid and sustainable resumption of tourist activity”. “Today, this is one of our priority missions. The arrival in person of the CEO of Ryanair in Morocco is a strong signal of the confidence of the company in the destination”, he observed.

The Irish company has thus announced extremely ambitious objectives for the Morocco destination. For the upcoming Summer 2022 season, the company is now committed to a record capacity of 2,073,600 seats, an increase of 54% compared to 2019, the pre-Covid reference year.

For his part, Eddie Wilson, CEO of Ryanair, indicated that ” Morocco is one of our priority markets, due to its strong appeal and the growing year-on-year demand from travelers for this destination”. And to add: “We are therefore very happy to announce an ambitious partnership with the ONMT, in a context of recovery that looks very promising”.

Ryanair plans to operate 37 routes this summer, serving Morocco from 45 European airports to 10 Moroccan destinations, namely Agadir, Essaouira, Fez, Marrakech, Nador, Ouarzazate, Oujda, Rabat, Tangier and Tetouan.

Several new connections are inaugurated between European airports and Moroccan destinations: London Stansted-Tangier, Rome-Tangier, Las Palmas-Marrakech, Edinburgh-Marrakech, Limoges-Marrakech, Alicante-Marrakech, Porto-Fès, Lisbon-Fès, Rome- Fez, Bologna-Fez.

The current winter 2021-22 season has seen the opening of the new Agadir air base, where the company has based 2 aircraft, thus allowing a massive injection of seat capacity to Agadir, recalls the same source. The partnership initiated since 2006 between the ONMT and Ryanair for the benefit of Moroccan tourism, already consolidated by Adel El Fakir’s visit to Dublin on February 4, 2022, is stronger than ever. Ryanair thus stands out as the first company in terms of air capacity to Morocco (excluding the hub of Casablanca). The ONMT thus continues its momentum of reconquest of the international markets.
