the number of auto-entrepreneurs has more than quadrupled in 4 years

The population of auto-entrepreneurs has more than quadrupled in four years, reaching 373,663 in 2021, according to the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI).

“The year 2021 recorded 86,023 new subscriptions to the status of Auto-entrepreneur. This regime has been in high demand thanks, in particular, to simplified creation and deregistration procedures, reduced taxation and the possibility of exercising the activity from home. Thus, the population of auto-entrepreneurs has more than quadrupled in 4 years, going from 86,169 to 373,663”says the DGI in its 2021 activity report.

Also, the DGI has identified 186,231 new taxpayers for the year 2021. Professional natural persons account for 64% of these new identifications with 118,762 taxpayers, against 36% for legal persons (67,469).

Regarding the common company identifier (ICE), a tool for uniform identification and simplification of administrative formalities, it was recovered by 274,373 companies in 2021.

In addition, the said report indicates the continuation of the dynamic of clearing the liabilities of reimbursements and refunds in 2021, with an overall increase of 21% to approximately 13.49 billion dirhams (MMDH), i.e. an achievement of 157 % compared to the forecasts of the Finance Law (LF-2021).

Reimbursements of value added tax (VAT) amounted to more than 12.64 billion dirhams, recording an achievement rate of 159% of the LF-2021 and an increase of 22% compared to 2020.

Expenditure on corporation tax (IS) reached 401 million dirhams (MDH), down 27% compared to 2020, while income tax refunds (IR) achieved 262% of LF-2021 forecast, up 91%.
