The number of active Moroccan exporters increases by 3.7% during the period 2011-2019

The number of active exporters in Morocco stood at 4,309 operators in 2019 against 3,226 in 2011, representing an average annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.7%, according to the Foreign Exchange Office.

These operators represent an average share of 62.1% of the total number of exporters in Morocco between 2011 and 2019, indicates the Foreign Exchange Office in a study entitled “Multidimensional analysis of the evolution of the profile of active Moroccan exporters”.

In terms of export turnover, active exporters achieve 99.3% of total export turnover for the same period, the same source said, adding that active exporters in Morocco, made up of 60.7% of very small and small exporters recorded an export turnover of 282.4 billion dirhams (MMDH) in 2019.

A proportion of 63% of this turnover is achieved by the very large active exporters who represent only 2.6% in terms of number.

Analysis of these performances by sector reveals that active exporters in the “Automotive industry” sector achieve the highest growth in terms of export turnover with a CAGR of 33.9%.

Their export turnover increased from 3.8 billion dirhams in 2011 to 39 billion dirhams in 2019 and their share in the overall export turnover increased by 11.6 points (2.2% in 2011 against 13.8% in 2019) .

At the same time, active exporters in the “Agriculture, forestry and hunting” sector recorded the largest increase in the number of active exporters with an CAGR of 8.7%, increasing from 354 active exporters in 2011 to 691 active exporters in 2019. This increase in number is accompanied by an increase in the export turnover of this population of 10.4% (26.2 billion dirhams in 2019 against 11.9 billion dirhams in 2011).

Like the development of Morocco’s trade with the rest of the world in recent years, Moroccan exporters show continuous improvement in all the indicators that define this population. Indeed, during the period 2011-2019, the total number of Moroccan exporters increased from 5,179 exporters in 2011 to 7,092 exporters in 2019 with an export turnover reaching 284.5 billion dirhams in 2019. Despite the effects of the Covid-19 crisis in 2020, the performances achieved by this population remain higher than those posted during the 2011-2017 period.
