The first session of the Night of Museums and Cultural Spaces was launched on Wednesday evening at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat.
For the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, this event, organized by the National Museums Foundation, the Majorelle Garden Foundation and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, helps to bring art closer to citizens.
“The Night of Museums and Cultural Spaces, which will be organized each year with free access, reflects the far-sighted royal vision, aimed at restructuring museums, through the mobilization of investments and the creation of great dynamism in this area, noting that museums at the national level are open to their environment,” he told reporters.
For his part, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd, stressed that this event is part of the revitalization of the cultural field, in particular after two years of forced interruption due to the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Culture now plays an important social and economic role, explaining that the promotion of national culture is likely to create a cultural market in the fields of cinema, theater, museums and others, he said.
This is “a unique opportunity to enhance Moroccan cultural heritage, in particular by facilitating citizens’ access to these spaces”, for her part estimated the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy. , Fatim-Zahra Amor.
Some 65% of tourists visit Morocco for the purpose of cultural discovery, she recalled, stressing the need to make this heritage known and to invest it in the promotion of the Kingdom’s tourist offer.
And to add that the Ministry of Tourism “works alongside the Ministry of Culture to make cultural heritage freely available to tourists in order to promote foreign tourism”.
The President of the National Museums Foundation, Mehdi Qotbi, meanwhile indicated that the first Night of Museums and Cultural Spaces is a celebration of lights, colors and culture, adding that more than forty museums and cultural spaces in across the Kingdom will open their doors free of charge and until midnight to the widest and most diversified public possible to see the works they house and discover the collections they present.
As part of this event, the cities of Oujda, Tetouan, Tangier, Fez, Meknes, Rabat, Casablanca, Safi and Marrakech will offer a multitude of exhibition programs of modern, contemporary and ethnographic art to allow all audiences to invest in museums.
Also present at the launch were the Mayor of Rabat, Asmaa Rhlalou, and the President of the Majorelle Garden Foundation, Madison Cox.
