As part of the Moroccan autonomy plan for its Sahara, the new German ambassador in Rabat, Robert Dölger, is beginning his diplomatic duties, tackling several strategic issues.
The representative of German diplomacy returned to Morocco on Tuesday after months of freezing due to Berlin’s ambiguous positions on the question of the Moroccan Sahara.
Among the most important strategic cooperation issues awaiting the new German ambassador is that of the implementation of the new roadmap agreed by Rabat and Berlin which has allowed, first of all, the resumption of diplomatic relations , then political cooperation between the two countries based on respect for sovereignty, the strategic orientations of the two countries and their political choices.
In this respect, Hicham Mouatadid, a specialist in international relations, believes that the new German ambassador will face great challenges linked to the reorganization of German diplomacy according to the new orientations of Berlin, which is trying to win the support of Rabat in many strategic files, in particular those linked to vital sectors of common interest, at the level of the Mediterranean region and the African continent.
The political scientist adds that the German ambassador will have to work urgently and under his direct supervision on strengthening institutional cooperation between the two countries at the highest level by relying on joint projects between political institutions in several sectors.
Mouatadid also stressed that the German ambassador will work to implement the will of the two countries to invest in this strategic agreement in response to the aspirations of Moroccan and German economic and political actors.
He added that the new German ambassador will launch a new diplomatic phase in Moroccan-German relations. This new transition in the quality of political cooperation between the two countries will oblige it, on the one hand, to take responsible diplomatic action accompanied by the implementation of responsible political commitments. On the other hand, he will have to ensure that the process of joint projects is followed in accordance with the terms of the strategic agreement between the leaders of the two countries.
The international relations expert emphasizes the sensitivity of the period of Germany’s distrust of Morocco’s strategic interests and sovereign orientations. And to add that “it is all these factors which push the new ambassador to manage his appointment at the head of German diplomacy in Morocco, with a lot of political commitment and diplomatic professionalism in order to win the bet of the aspirations of the two countries. . »
