During the open sit-in that they lead in several cities, the professionals of the tourist transport sector obtained from the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Solidarity and Social Economy the promise of a decision to postpone the deadlines debt for a period of one year, with the State bearing the profits resulting from the deferral.
Despite the promise that professionals in the tourist transport sector have received, they fear that it will not be implemented, as has happened previously with government agencies that have taken care of their files.
Mohamed Bamansour, secretary general of the National Federation of Tourist Transport in Morocco, indicated that the Ministry of Tourism, after its meeting with the federation, sent a note to the regional directors of tourism, specifying that the repayment of the debt has been postponed. from January 1, 2022 until the end of December of the same year.
Despite the press release from the Ministry of Tourism, the financing companies claim “that they have come to nothing”, according to the press release by Mohamed Bamansour addressed to MoroccoLatestNews, adding that the absence of binding decisions “gives these companies leeway to make the right decisions”.
The same source added that the situation is different for hotels and tourist accommodation establishments, since they have benefited from the postponement of the repayment of the debt, after signing a formal agreement with the competent government authorities, which obliges the financing institutions to comply with the aforementioned agreement, while no similar agreement has been signed with professionals in the tourist transport sector.
The owners of tourist transport subcontractors have been organizing an open sit-in for the past eighteen days in several cities, to demand ” save the sector from bankruptcy and find a radical solution to the crisis left by the precautionary measures to deal with the pandemic”.
The aforementioned professionals hope from the Minister of Tourism that she will keep her promise relating to the postponement of the payment of the debts for which they are liable, because the secretary general of the National Federation of Tourist Transport in Morocco has indicated that the actors of the sector “only ask for an official document proving the activation of the postponement decision, in order to present it before the financing companies or before the courts for those against whom proceedings have been brought“.
He added that ” professionals in the tourist transport sector are not asking for anything prohibitive, but only asking for measures to ensure investment in this sector and preserve jobs in it”, adding: “We only want to be treated fairly to get out of the circle of ambiguity in which we find it, in order to save companies from bankruptcy, otherwise the government will have to find an alternative for us”.
