The government attached to the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, stressed, Tuesday in Rabat, the commitment of the Executive to accelerate the priority strategic projects stipulated in the organic law relating to the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language and the modalities of its integration into the various aspects of public life.

“Starting from the fact that the constitutional consecration of the Amazigh language emanates from a decision and a Royal High Will, without which this stage could not have been taken, we are committed as a government to accelerating the priority strategic projects stipulated in the organic law 26-12 relating to the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language and the modalities of its integration in the various aspects of life: education, culture, judicial system and administration”, said the head of government during the signing of an amendment to the cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Justice and the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRACM) on the integration of the Amazigh language into the system judicial.

In this sense, he emphasized the imperative of mobilizing the efforts and the human, logistical and financial resources likely to implement the provisions of this organic law, particularly in terms of completing the legal, organizational and institutional, making it possible to translate into practice the two organic laws relating to the officialization of the Amazigh language and the National Council for Moroccan Languages ​​and Culture.

Aziz Akhannouch noted that the officialization of the Amazigh language and its integration into the various aspects of public life is one of the government’s priorities, based on the conviction of giving the Amazigh language and culture the place they deserve. deserve in the construction of national identity, the milestones of which were consecrated by King Mohammed VI in the founding speech of Ajdir in 2001, before the constitutional consecration of the entire cultural and linguistic heritage of the Moroccan people, in as a fundamental component of national unity.

In this regard, Aziz Akhannouch recalled that the government began its mandate by taking bold and concrete measures for the promotion of the Amazigh language, by allocating 200 million DH, within the framework of the 2022 Finance Law, for the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language, while committing to gradually increase this envelope to reach one billion DH in 2025, to create two new prizes within the framework of the Prix du Maroc du Livre, namely the of Morocco for the encouragement of Amazigh creativity and the Prize of Morocco for the encouragement of studies in the field of Amazigh cultures.

In the same vein, continued the Head of Government, regular annual support has been reserved for the Amazigh book, just as the Amazigh cultural associations have benefited from the support devoted to the projects presented in the various fields benefiting from the support, adding that he translation into the Amazigh language has been carried out of numerous works relating to tangible and intangible heritage, alongside other measures.

Regarding the amendment to the cooperation agreement on the integration of the Amazigh language in the field of justice, he considered that this is a “first step” for the implementation concrete expression of the government’s vision in this area, through the integration of the Amazigh language into the judicial system thanks to a partnership between the Ministry of Justice and IRCAM, the purpose being to facilitate the reception and the information of Amazighophone litigants, and to ensure the translation of their administrative and legal documents.

Aziz Akhannouch also expressed the wish to see other measures gradually materialize in the future, in particular the guarantee of simultaneous translation from and into the Amazigh language within the courts and the administration, the adoption of the Amazigh in the judicial field, including the translation from and into this language during the procedures of instruction, pleading, hearing of witnesses, notification, in addition to the possibility of rendering verdicts and judgments in the Amazigh language.
