The overall volume of water resources reached two billion and 110 million cubic meters, registering a surplus of 207% compared to the same period last year, said Monday in Rabat, the Minister of Equipment and of Water, Nizar Baraka.
In response to an oral question in the House of Representatives, Baraka clarified that the national average rainfall recorded from September 2022 to today is 72 millimeters, compared to 38 millimeters last year, which represents an increase of 88% .
In the same vein, the Minister added that the average snow-covered area reached 5,720 km2 against 4,480 km2 the previous year, an increase of 30%, while the maximum snow area reached 28,480 km2 as of January 29. .
The filling rate of the dams was close to 31.9% (5 billion and 100 million m3), continued the minister, affirming that the rate recorded last year, i.e. 33.8%, is on the way to being crossed . The minister, however, pointed out that there are discrepancies in the filling rate of the dams between the different regions, indicating that this rate reached around 55% in the Loukous region and 25% in the Oriental region, whereas that it remains weak in the region of Oum Rbii and Tensift.
In this regard, Baraka stressed the need to take rapid measures to avoid the repercussions of water shortage in these regions.
