Filming of the film adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s bestseller “The Alchemist” will take place in Morocco and will begin in September in Morocco, according to the American online news site “Deadline Hollywood”.

“Westbrook Studios, Netter Films and PalmStar Media have set a September start date in Morocco for The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho’s flagship novel that PalmStar director Kevin Frakes will direct,” noted Deadline Hollywood.

The film, scheduled for release in 2022, will see the participation of actors such as Sebastian De Souza, Tom Hollander, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Jordi Molla, Moroccan actor Youssef Kerkour (nominated for the BAFTA Awards, prestigious British cinema prize), and renowned Palestinian actor Ashraf Barhom, the outlet said.

The film is produced by Will Smith and Jon Mone for Westbrook Studios; Frakes and Raj Singh for PalmStar; and Gil Netter for Netter Films.

The Alchemist follows a young Andalusian shepherd named Santiago on an epic quest for a treasure that will change his life. The book is an international bestseller and a popular literary work; the actors and crew of the film represent the authenticity of the setting of the story in Spain and North Africa, as well as the diversity of a global and diverse production.

The famous book has sold over 100 million copies in 56 languages ​​and holds the Guinness World Record for the most translated work by a living author, which portends a potential global audience. The Brazilian author first sold the rights in 1994 to Warner Bros. for $ 250,000.
