The Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, had a meeting on Tuesday in Rabat with the Assistant Director General for Communication and Information of UNESCO, Taoufik Jelassi, currently on a visit from work in Morocco.

This interview focused on the means of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the international organization and the mechanisms for joint action in various fields, in particular the aspect related to communication and information, indicates a press release. of the ministry.

In this context, the two parties stressed the need to set up a joint action plan for the fight against fake news and media literacy.

Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid reaffirmed Morocco’s responsible commitment to the various UNESCO projects aimed at combating fake news, in light of the remarkable technological development the world is experiencing and the boom in the electronic press and social media .

He stressed that his department will launch a number of projects in this area, in partnership with national institutions and civil society organizations active in the media field, which have submitted rich project proposals aimed at combating fake news. -news, noting that this is the orientation of the ministry without infringing on the freedom of opinion and expression guaranteed by the Constitution, international conventions and treaties.

For his part, Taoufik Jelassi affirmed UNESCO’s commitment to support the Kingdom through constructive projects aimed at protecting journalists in the exercise of their profession, to fight against fake news as well as development projects. media education, emphasizing that joint action in this area will only be fruitful given the determination displayed and the experience that Morocco has accumulated in the media field.
