At the close of the 4th edition of the Atlas Workshops, its professional meeting dedicated to filmmakers from the African continent and the Arab world The Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM), announced the winners of six prizes representing an endowment total of 56,000 €.
Thus, the Atlas Postproduction Prize Jury made up of Nuha El Tayeb (Netflix), Sido Mohamed Lansari (Tangier Cinémathèque) and Karel Och (Karlovy Vary International Film Festival) rewarded the films THE MOTHER OF ALL LIES (LA MOTHER OF ALL LIES) by Asmae El Moudir (Morocco) and UNDER THE FIG TREES (UNDER THE FIGURES) by Erige Sehiri (Tunisia), said a press release from the FIFM Foundation on Thursday.
The Atlas Development Prize jury, made up of producers Steven Markovitz and Janja Kralj as well as Sata Cissokho (Memento), rewarded the projects THE CHATTERING OF TEETH by Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese (Lesotho), THE LAST DAYS OF RM (LES DERNIERS JOURS DE RM) by Amin Sidi-Boumédiène (Algeria) and LA MÁS DULCE by Laïla Marrakchi (Morocco), adds the same source.
In addition, the ARTEKINO International Prize awarded by the Franco-German channel was awarded to the developing project SWEET DISPOSITION by Youssef Michraf (Morocco).
Initiated with the support of the Moroccan Cinematographic Center and Netflix, this digital edition brought together 300 international professionals around a selection of 24 projects and films, carried by a new generation of Moroccan, Arab and African filmmakers, recalls the press release, noting that these 15 projects in development and 9 films in production or post-production benefited from tailor-made support representing nearly 150 hours of mentoring by consultants in script, production, distribution, editing and music.
“The Atlas Workshops virtual co-production market generated nearly 350 individual meetings with the selected directors and producers, illustrating the growing interest of professionals in cinemas on the African continent and the Arab world”, underlines the press release.
