To deal with a possible provocation by the Polisario Front militias, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) are working to extend the seat belt in the Moroccan Sahara. The aim is to completely close the front doors to the separatists and prevent them from reaching the buffer zones, which they claim to be “ freed land “.
For several months, the FAR have been building a new safety belt, as part of the strengthening of control at Moroccan borders, in particular in the light of new information disseminated on the existence of skirmishes.
According to information received by MoroccoLatestNews, the new seat belt was built about four months ago in the Touizki area, about 50 kilometers from the city of Zag. An area which housed an old seat belt, but which saw the construction of a new one just 17 kilometers from the old one, towards the international border.
The purpose of the construction of this wall is to cut the road to possible skirmishes of the Polisario militias, and to close the door to any attempt of incursion, smuggling or illegal immigration.
Launched in 1980, the security wall in the Moroccan Sahara was built in several stages. Over the years, it has helped contain incursion attempts by separatist groups with outside support in the 1970s and 1980s of the last century. An effective method that has proven itself at the time and still today, allowing Morocco to monitor all elements of interference at its borders. A wall that has been renovated and developed into an integrated defensive device with different units and numerous points of support.
