The E3 video game show scheduled for June 2022 in virtual format

The 2022 edition of E3, one of the largest trade shows in the field of video games, will once again be held in virtual format this summer, its organizer announced, citing current concerns related to the Covid pandemic -19.

“Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding Covid-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022,” said the Entertainment Software Administration (ESA) in a press release, without specifying the exact date of this edition of the show. E3 is the latest in a series of major events that have been derailed by the latest outbreak of Covid-19: The Grammy awards ceremony has just been postponed indefinitely from its original date of January 31, while that the Sundance Film Festival has also become exclusively online.

From 2009 to 2019, E3 was held every June at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic canceled the event outright in 2020 and forced it to turn into a series of four-day online presentations in 2021.

Other major gaming industry and tech conferences, such as the DICE Summit (February 22-24 in Las Vegas), the Game Developers Conference (March 21-25 in San Francisco) and the South By Southwest ( March 11-20 in Austin) are still scheduled in person.
