The dimensions of Moroccan-American relations highlighted in Agadir

The dimensions of Moroccan-American relations and the long history of military cooperation linking the two countries were highlighted during a conference held Wednesday in Agadir, at the initiative of the US Embassy in Rabat.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Meredith Hindley, a historian specializing in military history, stressed that Morocco and the United States maintain historical ties that testify to the humanitarian, political and diplomatic depth that has characterized relations between the two countries through the centuries as demonstrated by Operation “Torch”, which has contributed to the consolidation of Moroccan-American relations in various fields.

The Kingdom was the first country to recognize the independence of the United States, and with whom it signed the oldest Treaty of Peace and Friendship in the history of this country, she recalled.

For his part, Brigadier General Turley of the Utah National Guard affirmed that the annual “African Lion” exercise embodies the excellent relations between Morocco and the United States.

In this sense, Mr. Turley highlighted the deployment of a medical-surgical field hospital in the town of Taliouine (province of Taroudant).

This hospital, which mobilizes medical teams made up of doctors and nurses from the Royal Armed Forces and the American Army, is part of the parallel humanitarian activities of the combined Moroccan-American exercise “African Lion 2022”. .

“African Lion” is a combined joint exercise organized each year by the FAR and the American Armed Forces.

This year’s edition (June 20 to 30), has the participation of 10 African and international countries, including Morocco and the United States, as well as about twenty military observers from partner countries in the regions of Agadir, Benguerir, Kenitra, Mahbès, Taroudant and Tantan.
