The deliberations of the 36th ordinary session of the AU Summit resume

The Summit of Heads of State and Government of the 54 member countries of the African Union (AU) resumed, Sunday in Addis Ababa, the work of its 36th ordinary session with the participation of Morocco.

Under the theme “Acceleration of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)”, the 36th Union Summit addresses several topics related to AU projects and problems faced by member countries .

These include discussing the institutional reform of the Union, the state of peace and security on the continent, the granting of a seat to the AU within the G20, the food crisis world, the AU’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the evaluation of the first ten-year plan for the implementation of Agenda 2063, climate change as well as issues relating to the Free Trade Area continental (ZLECAF).

This 36th AU Summit is chaired by the President of the Union of the Comoros, Mr. Azali Assoumani, whose country assumes the rotating presidency of the Pan-African organization from Saturday.
