The criminal protection of women is one of the priority issues of the national criminal policy indicated, Wednesday in Rabat, the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi.
Speaking at a coordination meeting to monitor the implementation of the territorial protocol for the care of women victims of violence, organized over two days by the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Abdellatif Ouahbi affirmed that the Ministry is concerned with revise the criminal policy and reconsider the principles that govern it, by putting in place legal mechanisms likely to prevent all forms of abuse of which women may be victims, in particular through a comprehensive review of the policy of criminalization and penalization or through specific laws to combat violence against women and girls.
And to emphasize the importance of the emergence of policies to combat violence against women in the wake of a profound and comprehensive reform of the justice system with a view to ensuring the protection of rights and freedoms, as well as facilitate access to justice, enshrine respect for the values of equity and equality and promote the legal protection of women and girls who are victims of violence.
The participants in this meeting are discussing, in particular, the means of improving judicial investigations and their relevance in relation to the specificity of crimes of violence against women, the improvement of access for women victims to security services and procedures and the simplification of procedures, as well as the strengthening of the role of the various actors in the implementation of the protection of victims.
The opening session was marked by the screening of a documentary film on the roles and efforts of the signatory departments of the Territorial Protocol produced by the Presidency of the Public Ministry, with the support of UN Women.
