The Council of Government sets the date for the 2024 census

The Council of Government, meeting on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, approved draft decree No. 2.23.647 setting the date of the General Population and Housing Census (RGPH-2024).

This decree falls within the framework of the High Royal Guidelines contained in the message that the Sovereign addressed to the participants in the scientific meeting on the occasion of World Statistics Day on 20 October 2010 with a view to ensuring respect standards and practices established by the competent regional and international organizations at the time of the population and housing census, indicated the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, government spokesperson, Mustapha Baïtas, during a press briefing held after the Board meeting.

Presented by the Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, this decree comes in application of the High Royal Instructions, and in compliance with the deadlines, in accordance with the recommendations of the UN authorities concerned by this question, added Baïtas, specifying that the RGPH, planned in September 2024, will be carried out under the authority of the Minister of the Interior and the High Commissioner for Planning as well as under the supervision of the Walis and governors who are responsible for its implementation within the framework of the constituencies and districts under their jurisdiction. territories, in accordance with the provisions of Decree No. 2.04.405 of August 30, 2004 amending and supplementing Decree No. 2.71.99 of June 29, 1971 setting the terms of application of Law No. 001.71 of Rabia 22 of June 16 1971 relating to the general population and housing census of the Kingdom.

The Minister noted that the deadline for this operation, set at 20 days (from September 1 to 20) provided stricto sensu in previous censuses, has been extended until September 30 with regard to the 2024 census which will involve new technologies in order to reduce the cost of this operation.
