The specialized Spanish daily AS, echoed Sunday the coronation of the national team of U23 at the African Cup of Nations (CAN) of the category, which confirms the upward curve of Moroccan football.
“The victory of the Moroccan selection in the final of the CAN under 23, Saturday evening in Rabat, against its Egyptian counterpart confirms the + magic cycle + of Moroccan football”writes the publication.
She points out in this regard that “the title remained in Morocco to confirm a magic cycle of Moroccan football (…)”, and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli and his teammates “have become national heroes”.
“Ezzalzouli has achieved his goal. Morocco were crowned champions of the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday, with the Barcelona striker as their star player,” supports AS.
And to add: “The Atlas Cubs won in overtime and won the Cup in a sold-out stadium”noting that “Moroccan football is making great strides and the 21-year-old player from Barcelona is one of its figureheads”.
“Wearing the captain’s armband, Ezzalzouli scored three goals (top scorer) and provided three assists in five matches” throughout the competition, specifies the Spanish sports daily.
As a reminder, the Moroccan selection won the African Cup of Nations (CAN) under 23 football, beating Egypt in the final by 2 goals to 1 after extra time (1-1, regulation time), Saturday evening at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
The Egyptians opened the scoring in the 10th minute thanks to Mahmoud Saber (10th), before Yanis Begraoui equalized in the 37th minute. During extra time, Oussama Targhaline scored the winning goal for the Moroccans (105+3rd).
