The African Union (AU) on Saturday called on the armed forces in Sudan and the Rapid Support Forces in particular, to immediately cease the fighting.
In a statement, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, said that he had continued to follow very closely and with deep concern the developments in Sudan and to encourage directly and indirectly the civil political parties. and military to find a consensual solution to the crisis in that country.
“Today, when things have gone dangerously out of control and resort to armed violence has prevailed as a means of resolving political disputes, the Chairperson of the AU Commission makes a fervent appeal to all parties, the armed forces and the rapid intervention forces, in particular, to immediately cease the destruction of the country, the panic of the populations and the bloodshed of the innocents in the last ten years of the holy month of Ramadan”, reads this press release.
At this moment of “extreme gravity”, it is added, the President of the Commission “urges all the components of the international community to combine, in unity and urgency, their efforts to bring the parties back to immediately cease military actions and return to the negotiating table for a solution to the crisis satisfactory to all”.
