The two friendly matches of the Moroccan football team against, respectively, its counterparts from Ghana and Burkina, are a good test before starting the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, said national coach Vahid Halilhodzic, saying that victory will give players more confidence in the future.
“These two matches are already part of the spirit of the African Cup and the World Cup. If we win them that will allow the players to be more confident for the future, in particular on the moral level ”, he declared to the press, on the sidelines of the last training session of the Atlas Lions , performed on Monday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, on the eve of the friendly match against Ghana (8:00 p.m.).
The choice of Ghana and Burkina was not made by chance, but was made taking into consideration the strength and style of play of these teams, in particular the Ghanaian selection which is behind Morocco in the FIFA rankings, he explained.
“Ghana is a team which has an attacking and quality game and that will help us for our progress”, underlined Halilhodzic, adding that “the atmosphere is good within the group”.
The national coach noted that “some players have not played enough within their clubs and others are showing some fatigue, but we were able to make up for all that”.
Regarding the international Adam Massina, he indicated that after medical examinations, it turned out that he suffered from a slight injury, adding that he preferred to spare him against Ghana to leave him the time to fully recover to join the group against Burkina.
In a similar statement, midfielder Soufiane Amrabat said the Ghanaian side are a strong team, “but we have prepared well for this game and we hope to get a good result”.
For the Moroccan international, “playing for the national team and wearing the colors of Morocco is always a great honor”.
Raja Casablanca striker Soufiane Rahimi for his part said that the matches against Ghana and Burkina represent an asset for the preparation of the Atlas Lions because, he said, it is about ‘competitive teams, adding that the results of these two matches are important to start the rest of the preparation for the Africa Cup and the World Cup.
“The national elements spent a week together. It is something good for the homogeneity of the group during our next official matches, ”he noted. The national team will meet its counterpart from Burkina, during its second friendly match, on the 12th instant on the lawn of the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat.
