Actor Danny Masterson, known for playing Steve Hyde on “That ’70s Show” was found guilty of raping two women and was given a sentence of 30 years to life in prison on Thursday.
The victims said that the Church of Scientology tried to frighten them into keeping quiet by defending the actor and protecting him.
The actor raped the two women in the early 2000s in his Los Angeles home after drugging them in separate incidents.
After the initial trial, a second was held in May when a jury could not agree on whether or not the actor and well-known Scientologist who appeared in the classic TV comedy had sexually assaulted a third woman.
The judge in charge of the case rejected the defense’s motion for Masterson to serve his sentence concurrently rather than consecutively, resulting in a sentence of only 15 years in jail.
“You relish in hurting women. It is your addiction. It is without question your favorite thing to do,” said one of the victims in court
Actress Leah Remini who used to be a Scientologist and quit years ago, showed her full support to the victims and denounced Scientology as a whole.
