Tangier launches an international call for tenders for a cable car

The Municipality of Tangier has launched the call for tenders for the delegated management of the public service of urban collective transport by cable car in the city.

This call for tenders issued by the municipality of Tangier, assisted and represented by the Development Company for the reconversion of the port area of Tangier city “SAPT” aims to select a delegate, with the skills and technical, human and financial resources to carry out the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of a cable car system and all of its components.

The public tender file (AC) can be withdrawn from the SAPT order office in Tangier or downloaded from the public procurement portal: www.marchespublics.gov.ma, with the exception of plans and documents techniques. The opening of bids relating to this call for tenders is scheduled for April 17, 2023 at 11 a.m.

Regarding the second phase relating to the construction of the third section linking the Plaisance station to the Place Faro station (Sour Al Maâgazine), it will be carried out after the commissioning of the cable car on the first two sections.

The main objective of this project is to improve the tourist attractiveness of the city of Tangier, which implies compliance with the highest international standards and the need to guarantee cable car users a level of quality and safety of facilities and services. provided.

It should be recalled that the municipal council of Tangier approved, unanimously by the members present at its extraordinary session, held in July 2021, the creation of the public service of urban collective transport by cable car and the mode of delegated management, as well the related specifications, in addition to a partnership agreement under which the municipal council confers on the SAPT the prerogative to take the necessary steps to carry out the project.

Speaking on this occasion, the technical director of SAPT, Driss Benabad, indicated that the first phase of the cable car project will require a budget of 240 million dirhams (MDH), with a capacity of 1,000 passengers per hour, adding that this phase will include cabins capable of transporting 10 people for a journey of approximately 7 minutes.

The cable car project is also part of a sustainable development approach (green mobility) and tourist activities in the city of Tangier.
