Awarded by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, chaired by Princess Lalla Hasnaa, and the International Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), this demanding international label demands not only an irreproachable quality of water from swimming, but is also interested in safety, the development of beaches and back beaches and environmental awareness.
This is one more beach than the previous year, the Foundation notes in a press release, noting that the municipalities in charge of labeled beaches have maintained their efforts despite the health situation in summer 2020 linked to covid-19.
“The Blue Flag label leads to improved beach management and prepares the municipalities responsible for it for additional organizational efforts. In 2020, the Foundation produced a guide for the management of beaches in the context of a pandemic for municipalities ”.
Its recommendations, which deal with points such as social distancing, respect for barrier gestures or the distribution of hydroalcoholic gel, will be maintained on the beaches open to swimming, said the Foundation.
Note that the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment supports the municipalities, which are supported by the General Directorate of Territorial Collectivities, the ministerial departments concerned and economic partners, through training or management tools, in order to ” offer summer visitors a secure environment for their relaxation.
The labeled municipalities take charge of the complete management of the beaches that fall within their scope, namely maintenance, cleanliness, equipment, safety, training, awareness and accessibility.
Every year since 2002, the Foundation has awarded the Blue Flag international label, created by the International Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). It is hoisted on 4,743 beaches and marinas in 47 countries in Europe, Africa, America or the Caribbean or the Pacific and is awarded each year, after a long preparation and an evaluation by the program, to the coastal municipalities that have in charge of beach management.
