The last peaceful protests from several categories of teaching staff in Rabat turned into confrontation with the police. These confrontations gave rise to scenes of violence documented on smartphones and which have toured the web arousing indignation and condemnation.
Indeed, these acts of violence have been strongly denounced on the web by citizens, but also by the most representative unions in the sector, in particular the national education union (SNE) affiliated to the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT).
The SNE had recently announced a week of anger from March 22 to April 5, to make the voice of the protesters heard from their supervisors who refused to communicate with them. Several sit-ins are scheduled in front of the provincial directorates of the Kingdom as well as a national strike on April 5, accompanied by a sit-in in front of the Ministry of National Education in Rabat.
But after the violence against teachers, the SNE is announcing today two additional days of strike, on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 March.
” The dignity of women and men in education is a red line“. This is the title of the press release of the wrath of the SNE where it announces the two-day strike and a sit-in on March 23 in front of the provincial commands.
On March 17, and after the violence against contract teachers, holders of higher degrees and those known as ” 10 ″ cell, the SNE condemned this security approach, stressing ” the oppression of which teachers holding higher degrees, contract workers, etc. are victims, as well as the persistence of the security approach in the face of peaceful demonstrations by various categories of educational executives, who defend their just and legitimate demands ”.
In a statement to Hespress, Abdelouahab Shaimi, national coordinator of the coordination of graduates of the national education ministry, who was injured during the sit-in in front of the education ministry in Rabat on March 15 and transferred to the hospital, said that teachers ” were forced to go out in the street and protest after their guardianship did not respect its commitments ”.
“After having concluded with the Ministry of Education on January 21, 2020, and definitively, the resolution of the file of teachers holding higher diplomas. The ministry has given us a formula for how this issue will be resolved during this meeting. And we all agreed on this formula. We therefore waited, after the supervisory authority asked us to wait for a short time for the publication of the decree. “ , he recalled.
It should be remembered that the SNE “ holds the state and government accountable for the consequences of exploiting the pandemic to pass unjust regimes and laws, restrict freedoms, continue to monopolize decisions regarding the issue of education, and try to crush the trade union movement… ” .
