The US State Department highlighted Morocco’s “leadership” in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, while highlighting the partnership between the Kingdom and the United States which includes the security component.
In press statements, the State Department spokesman said that “Morocco has shown leadership in efforts to fight the Islamic State group in Africa”, referring to the recent arrest of Daesh-affiliated extremists by Moroccan security services.
“Morocco is a close partner of the United States on a series of security issues,” said the same source, recalling that last year the two countries co-organized the ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh in Marrakech with the participation of delegations from 85 countries.
American diplomacy recalls that this is the first time that a ministerial meeting of this World Coalition has been held in Africa, “demonstrating our common objective of combating violent extremism on the Continent and preventing organizations like IS to spread their hateful ideologies”.
“Through its role as co-chair of the Global Counterterrorism Forum and co-chair of the Africa Task Force within the Global Coalition against Daesh, Morocco supports the efforts of other partners in Africa to consolidate their capacities fight against terrorism, thus strengthening support for the stability of the countries of the Sahel”, added the spokesperson, who noted that such support enables these countries, in their national efforts, to ensure security and global justice.
It should be noted that in its latest report on terrorism, the US State Department highlighted “the long history of solid cooperation” in the fight against terrorism between the United States and Morocco, recalling that the government Morocco continued its comprehensive strategy focused on “vigilant security measures, regional and international cooperation and policies to combat radicalization”.
