Sport is a tool for promoting the values of tolerance, living together and social inclusion, hence the importance of creating a virtuous ecosystem to generate added value, said Thursday in Casablanca, the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa.
Speaking at the opening of the 2nd edition of the Summit on Education through Sport in Africa, Benmoussa stressed that King Mohammed VI continues to work to boost this sector in order to support the changes it is experiencing at the levels national and international, noting that Morocco attaches particular importance to grassroots sport through investment in infrastructure and training.
And to note that the Summit on Education through Sport in Africa is in line with the commitment of the Kingdom under the impetus of the King for sustainable development in Africa, noting that this event is an opportunity to exchange experiences and to promote innovative solutions and concrete actions on the ground.
The Minister noted that his department pays particular attention to the programming of physical education sessions in educational establishments, while working to diversify and generalize new activities to meet the expectations of young people.
In this regard, he stressed that “sport-study” courses and sectors are widespread across the Kingdom, recalling that sports practice is at the heart of the new development model.
Benmoussa recalled Morocco’s African commitment to promoting sports in Africa, citing in this sense the various African school sports events organized in the Kingdom.
In a statement to the press, the minister stressed that Morocco is experiencing a revolution in sport driven by the achievements of the national team during the last World Cup and the performance of other disciplines.
According to him, this event is an opportunity to forge links with several actors concerned (civil society, private sector and young people) in order to reach solutions allowing the generalization of sport and the improvement of high-level sport.
During this meeting, emphasis was placed on the issue of training and capacity development of organizations and actors in this field, said Benmoussa, stressing the importance of relations between Morocco and African countries to launch a new dynamic in sport on the continent.
Initiated by the NGO Tibu Africa and the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports under the patronage of UNESCO, the 2nd edition of the Summit of Education through Sport in Africa, is intended as a platform for debate , exchange of expertise and design of innovative and sustainable solutions in the field of sport.
