More than 300,000 Moroccans are affiliated with Spanish Social Security at the end of April 2022, according to data from the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, published on Wednesday.
Moroccans thus remain at the top of the ranking of non-EU foreign workers contributing to social security in Spain with 300,329 members, followed by Chinese (108,795) and Venezuelans (108,765).
Among foreigners, Romanians occupy the first position (340,641), ahead of Moroccans (300,329) and Italians (150,678).
Spanish Social Security registered 2,354,514 foreign affiliates last April, an increase of 55,689 people (+2.4%).
Of the total number of foreign affiliates, 828,034 came from EU countries (35.2%) and 1,526,480 from third countries (64.8%).
According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), some 879,943 Moroccans were legally established in Spain until January 1, 2022, up 0.8% (+7,184 people) compared to January 1, 2021.
Moroccans have thus maintained their position as the leading foreign community legally settled in the Iberian country, representing 16% of foreigners established in Spain, INE said.
