Souad Jamai signs the 2nd edition of his novel “The oath of the last messenger”

The writer Souad Jamaï signed, this weekend at the contemporary art space Abla Ababou in Rabat, the second edition of her novel “The oath of the last messenger”.

The 360-page work delivers a vision of a possible future where the joint interests of pharmaceutical firms and insurance companies take precedence over the health of populations. Far from being pessimistic, this dystopia highlights the stubbornness of humanism to exist against all odds.

Le Roman, a futuristic tale that sheds light on the anomalies of the present, tells the story of a young surgeon (Yélif) who discovers at least disturbing practices within the hospital where he practices. One thing leading to another, it sheds light on a dark manipulation involving pharmaceutical firms and insurance companies.

The psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Ahmed Farid Merini, who moderated the signing ceremony, praised Souad Jamaï’s interest in the image of the doctor and his ability to bring the profession to the public space.

While emphasizing the writing qualities of the novelist, he recalled the special mention of the Ivory Prize for African Literature, which she received in 2021.

“In a futuristic world, Souad Jamaï invites us to dive into a universe of particular medicine, effective but dehumanized. The novel is half fiction, half reality, because all the scientific facts related in this work are based on real research, ”he said.

Cardiologist by trade, the novelist Souad Jamaï is in her third work after “A doctor in the city” published in 2016 and “Des Wings de papier”, published in 2019. In 2018, she created a theater company composed only of doctors.
