A suicide bomber blew himself up on Saturday at the entrance to a teahouse in Baidoa, about 250 km northwest of the Somali capital, Mogadishu, killing at least six people and injuring seven others, police said. Somali.
“A suicide bomber was detonated in the Suweys cafeteria and killed six people,” said local police official Mohamud Adan, adding that the suicide bomber was targeting Governor Ali Wardheere who survived the attack.
“Two of the governor’s bodyguards are among the wounded, one seriously, and five others (wounded) are civilians,” added the policeman.
The attack was claimed by the Somali Islamist group of al-Shabaab which was driven out of Mogadishu in 2011 by the force of the African Union (AMISOM).
